A selection of Cannons

The photo above is of Alec King and Ron Thomas Trialing in the middle 1960ís in their KAT

Alec and Ron had a go at Trialing in an Austin Seven Box Saloon one winter and at the end of the season Alec and Ron enjoyed it so much they decided to make a Trials Car so knocked the body off the Box Saloon and built the car in the photo for the start of the next season (it took about 3 months). Note the number plate, side lights and windscreen as they had to be road worthy, taxed and insured, because most Trials had a number of sections then they had to pumped the tyres up and drive down the road to do more sections.

This was early 1960ís because the back wheels were wider (bigger J) and held on by 8 coach bolts on each side of the rim. They used small tubing, the only trouble being that the Austin 7 frame twists/flexes causing it to keep cracking. The engine was a 750 side valve and he pressurised the crank, about 30lb per square inch. Alec had his own aluminium head on it that Ron cast for him and 4 amal carburettors on it.

Alec won a lot of Trials in this car, but he got fed up with the tubing cracking and having to re-weld so built another car which was like a tank !
